Eating, Drinking and Nightlife
There are a couple of very nice places to eat in Samara, where you can enjoy a cold beer by the lapping waves. Nightlife is quiet, though things can get a bit loud on Friday and Saturday nights in high season, when the Tutti Fruti disco at the old Hotel Playa Samara comes into its own. Ananas , in front of the beach. Bar-restaurant, nicely set in a small rancho, serving incredibly tasty fruit salads, juices, breakfasts and coffee-and-cake combinations. Open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon coffee only. Creperie Naranja , in Casa Naranja in the centre of the village. Authentic French cuisine (the owner is a former Paris chef) served in a small outdoor garden lit with candles in the evening. The wide menu offers, among other things, savoury crepes (US$3.50), French favourites like duck a la orange (US$5) and some incredible traditional cakes and desserts, flans, tartes and sweet crepes from US$3 to US$4 - pricey, but worth every penny. Dorado , opposite the soccer field. German-run establishment with good fish dishes, particularly the filet of its namesake dorado (sea bass), although the pargo (snapper) is also very good - both are a real bargain at US$3 each with tasty vegetables. El Ancla , next door to the Delfin . Relatively new restaurant on the beach, with a long menu of fish dishes and a pretty setting close to the water. Isla Chora Inn , 400m down the Nosara road. Run by an Italian couple, with superb ice-cream and thin-crust pizza - the pizza con mariscos (US$7) is spectacular - as well as good pasta dishes and attentive service.
