Eating and Drinking
The Nosara area has experienced a mini-explosion of restaurants in the past few years. Many of them are very good, and prices are not as high as you might expect, given the area's relative isolation. There are a number of places in the village , most of them around the soccer field or on the road into town, though most of the better restaurants are huddled together near Playa Guiones , which is where the majority of tourists eat. Bar-restaurant Tucan , next to the Casa Tucan hotel. The menu features seafood in adventurous fruit-based sauces, lobster, chicken, pasta and steaks (all US$7-12), served in a pleasant rancho strung with inviting hammocks and coloured lights. A new juice bar offers "create-your-own" drinks. Cafe de Paris , at the southern entrance to Playa Guiones. The brioche and pain au chocolat confirm this bakery as a bona-fide overseas departement of France, while the pleasant poolside restaurant serves sandwiches and pizzas for lunch (US$4-9). Giardino Tropicale , south end of Nosara, on the road towards Samara. Superior-quality pizza cooked in a wood oven and served in a pretty plant-strewn dining area. Gilded Iguana , behind Playa Guiones. Upmarket bar with Mexican food that attracts the local expats, and well-priced lunch specials including filet of dorado (US$4) and fish and chips (US$3). Closed Mon, Tues & Sun. Soda El Tico , across from the airstrip. Geared toward locals, though budget travellers might want to check out its comida tipica, served in a small diner-type room. Soda Vanessa , next to Cabinas Agnell , Nosara village. Recommended by locals for its cheap and well-prepared casados .
