Eating and Drinking
As in other tourist towns in Costa Rica, head to the sodas frequented by locals for the cheapest meals - Soda El Costo de Oro , next to the Banco Popular, is the cheapest place in town, with fish casados for only US$2 and a busy lunchtime crowd of both locals and tourists. As a rule, fish is predictably good - order grilled pargo or dorado and you can't go far wrong. Cafe Milagro , on the sea wall has a real espresso machine and cakes - try the vanilla nut chill or iced raspberry mocha. The moderately priced Restaurante Dos Locos , just southwest of the mercado, is popular with travellers, with a cosmopolitan range of dishes - including large healthy sandwiches and Mexican cuisine - served up in a nice dining area open to the street. D'Angolo , across from Dos Locos , is a small Italian deli with a couple of tables and the place to come if you crave fettucini with real gorgonzola cheese (US$6) or if you're self-catering. Isabel , on the main street, has friendly, fast service and a menu of American and continental breakfasts, salads, pasta and rice dishes.
