Activities and Tours
Jaco is very much a beach town; other than sunbathing, surfing and a little cautious swimming, there's little to do. Experienced surfers can rent boards at a number of competing places in town; ask at Los Ranchos hotel for advice and recommendations. Renting a mountain bike (about US$10 a day) is useful for exploring the spread-out town. Some people rent mopeds (about US$35 a day) and head out onto the Costanera Sur highway to explore the 10km-long Playa Hermosa , 5km south of Jaco, another reputable surfing beach. The biggest range of tours can be found at Jaco Adventures (tel 643-1049, jacoadventures@playajaco.com ), 100m south of the Restaurante Colonial . Their day-long tours to Manuel Antonio (US$35) are popular, and they also run rafting trips on the Rio Savegre (US$89) and kayaking and snorkelling tours for US$55; day-trips to Isla Tortuga (US$70) are another perennial favourite.
