Southeast from Belmopan, the well-maintained Hummingbird Highway heads towards Dangriga, passing through magnificent scenery as it climbs over the hills and through lush forest. On the right the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains become visible, forming part of a ridge of limestone mountains riddled with underground rivers and caves , several of which are accessible.
