Arrival and Information
You'll find maps and brochures on the ferry dock in Cruz Bay (next to the ticket booth); grab a free copy of the St John Guidebook , which has a great map of Cruz Bay. The tourist office is located in town next to the post office. There is also a National Park Visitor Centre (daily 8am-4.30pm; tel 340/776-6201), at the creek in Cruz Bay, on the other side of the car ferry dock, north of the town centre. The exhibits will give you a taste of what you can expect to encounter on your hike and the centre will provide maps of the park for self-guided walks, help you plan your trip or book you onto guided hikes with park rangers. There is a post office in Cruz Bay (Mon-Fri 7.30am-4.30pm and Sat 7.30am-noon; tel 340/779-4227). Connections (tel 340/776-6922, ), located in the heart of Cruz Bay, is known as "information central" for the island and beyond and does a little bit of everything for those living and vacationing here. They can help book accommodation, recommend restaurants and schedule watersports activities. For boaters, they monitor VHF channel 72. You can check your email, as well as receive snail mail, get a document notarized and receive cash via Western Union; they even issue money orders. You can access the internet in Cruz Bay at Computer World (tel 340/693-9393) and Quiet Mon Pub & Cyber Celtic Cafe (tel 340/779-4799).
