Arrival and Information
The Henry E. Rohlsen Airport is located on the southern side of the island. VITRAN buses run between the airport and Christiansted every hour (ask at the airport for a route map and schedule); a taxi from the airport will cost about US$10 to Christiansted and US$5 to Frederiksted. Tourist offices - at the airport, in Frederiksted (at the pier; tel 340/772-0357) and in downtown Christiansted (tel 340/773-0495) - will load you up with maps, brochures and advice. There are post offices in Christiansted, Gallows Bay, Richmond, Sunny Isle, Kings Hill, Frederiksted and Mars Hill. You can access the internet in Christiansted at A Better Copy, 52 Company St (tel 340/692-5303); The Emporium, The Tamarind Reef Hotel (tel 340/773-3266); or Strand Street Station, Pan Am Pavillion (tel 340/719-6245). Opening hours on St Croix tend to coincide with the arrival of cruise ships. In Frederiksted, for example, while most of the restaurants remain open daily, shops remain closed until a cruise pulls into port (about twice a week during the high season and once every two weeks in low season). Outside of Christiansted, you should always call ahead to make sure your destination is open, especially in the off-season.
