Arrival and Information
Most people arrive via Crown Point International Airport , small enough to feel overwhelmed by the arrival of a single jet. There is a row of shops in the airport complex, among them a branch of the Republic Bank (Mon-Thurs 8am-3pm, Fri 8am-1pm & 3-5pm), useful for currency exchange . The tourist board office (daily 6am-9.30pm; tel 868/639-0509) is here too, a useful source of information . Internet access is also available, payable by credit card. There's also a small newsagent where local and Companion phone cards (TT$20, $30, $60, $100 + VAT) are sold. Official private taxis advertise their rates on the taxi price list on the wall of the arrivals lounge. The rates are high, but not wildly so. If you're on a budget, cross the street and haggle with the drivers who are not part of the authorized system. There's an hourly shuttle bus between Crown Point (the stop's just outside the airport complex) and Scarborough (half past the hour from Crown Point and on the hour from Scarborough); you can buy bus tickets from newsagents. If you're heading towards Charlotteville or Speyside, check with the tourist board, as chartering a taxi is quite expensive and many hotels throw in free airport collection. Remember on your return journey all visitors must pay a TT$100 departure tax , in local currency. If you're arriving by boat, you'll land in Scarborough docks; private and route taxi ranks are located at the docks entrance
