The imposing Mohammed Al Jinnah Memorial Mosque , resplendent with a crescent- and star-topped main dome, signals your arrival into ST JOSEPH , Trinidad's oldest European town and first official capital . Lined with fretworked French and Spanish architecture, it's one of the better places along the EMR to get a flavour of the East-West Corridor. Striking uphill into Abercromby Street takes you through the town to the Maracas Royal Road, continuing north into the lush Maracas-St Joseph Valley. Eight kilometres from the EMR is the signposted Waterfall Road - the appropriately named route to Maracas waterfall . A spectacular ninety-metre fall best seen during the rainy season (June-Dec), it's an excellent place for a quick dip after the sweaty twenty-minute walk it takes to get there. Route taxis run from Curepe junction, a busy public transport exchange two kilometres east of St Joseph, to Maracas Valley between 7am and 6pm; the fare is around TT$4, though you'll pay more if you go off-route along Waterfall Road.
