The numerous tiny deserted islets and coral reefs of the lovely TOBAGO CAYS are known for their superb snorkelling, diving and windsurfing opportunities. During high season their waters are busy with visiting yachts and local vendors touting everything from food to jewellery from their boats. The cays' popularity, however, is leading to their destruction as anchoring boats and over-fishing have caused considerable damage to the coral reefs. The islands are now a wildlife reserve, and fishing, jet skis and anchoring dinghies are all prohibited to preserve the endangered coral. Sailing day trips to the Tobago Cays can be organized from other Grenadine islands; try Fantasea Tours on St Vincent and Captain Yannis on Union Island. Resorts also offer packages that include trips like these.
