South of Soufriere, the west coast road meanders through hilly inland terrain, passing several small settlements before descending abruptly toward the coast and the community of Choiseul, named for the compact village of Choiseul itself: the turn-off is on the right, just past a white Anglican church. This is a quiet place, with little to do save swimming by the beach or river and exploring the pretty waterfront. About half a mile south of the village, though, is the small satellite settlement of La Fargue , best known for the Choiseul Arts and Craft Development Centre (open Mon-Sat, call for hours; tel 758/459-3226), the best place on the south coast to buy locally produced crafts.
