Taxes and Tipping
Hotels in St Lucia will almost always add two extra charges to their bills that may not be included in quoted room rates: a 10 percent service charge and an 8 percent government accommodation tax . These can bring your bill up an alarming 18 percent - a hefty addition for a week's stay even at a medium-priced hotel - so it's well worth checking whether taxes are included in the price before you book. Restaurants often add a 10 percent service charge onto the bill as well, and cab drivers should be tipped the same percentage. You must pay a EC$54 departure tax when leaving St Lucia by air, and an EC$20 tax if you depart by ferry.
