Just a few minutes north of Micoud by car lies one of the most serene places in St Lucia, the beautifully landscaped fifteen-acre Mamiku Gardens (daily 9am-5pm; EC$15, or $20 with guide; tel 758/455-3729, ). The gardens are teeming with brightly coloured exotic blooms such as hibiscus, ginger and heliconia, and you can explore the former plantation site via a simple network of short walking trails , each with resting spots at suitably beautiful points. Within walking distance of the gardens is the east coast's finest dining and accommodation option, the Fox Grove Inn (tel 758/455-3271, fax 455-3800, ; US$50-75). The charming, basic rooms here have lovely views, and there's both a swimming pool and pool table on site. The restaurant , open to non-guests as well, features delicately prepared fresh seafood and lobster, when in season, from the village of Dennery to the north. Portions are generous, the salads excellent (try the smoked king fish) and, like the rooms, the views over acres of banana plantation to Praslin Bay and the Fregates are second to none.
