By far the most popular beach on Nevis, Pinney's Beach is not the island's finest, but, being just a fifteen-minute-walk from the Charlestown pier, is the most convenient for day-trippers from Nevis and cruise passengers. The four-mile-long stretch has a smattering of rusty cannons and crumbling bastions belonging to Fort Ashby - one of eight fortifications that defended the coast in the 1700s - at its northern end. You can stay right on the beach at the ultra-swanky Four Seasons (tel 869/469-1111, fax 469-1040, ; US$495). A less pretentious option lies a couple of miles further up the coast, at the amiable Inn at Cades Bay (tel 869/469-8139, fax 469-8129, ; US$160-200) where sixteen spacious waterfront bungalows are fronted by hammock-strung porches. You can eat home-cooked beach fare and hearty Sunday brunches at the inn's restaurant, Tequila Sheila's ; or blackened fish and conch dishes at Seafood Madness , on Pinney's Road; and grilled seafood and lobster at Nevis' best bar , Sunshine's , on Pinney's Beach - famous for its Killer Bee, a potent rum and passion fruit concoction.
