Home to Bosque Estatal de Guanica , the world's best example of subtropical dry forest, the landscape in GUANICA jumps from scrubby and ordinary to eerily lunar, with blanched trees curling like arthritic old bones and the roots of mangrove trees at water's edge ensnaring the land and anything else in the way. The town of Guanica itself is rather dismal, but makes an excellent hub from which to explore the southwest, with everything of interest within a thirty-minute drive.
