San Juan's financial district, HATO REY is located just south of Santurce. Its main stretch, Avenida Ponce de Leon, is lined for a mile with high-rise office buildings and hotels and restaurants catering to the business trade. Amidst the pricey shops, there are a few good contemporary art galleries. The best of the lot, Galeria Botello at Avenida F.D. Roosevelt 314 (Mon-Sat 10am-6pm; tel 787/754-7430) - not to be confused with the knockoff in Old San Juan - sells the work of some of the island's most acclaimed younger artists, like Mari Mater O'Neill, whose reputations extend as far as New York and Europe. The work is reasonably priced, by London or LA standards, and is worth a look. For shopaholics, the Caribbean's largest mall - with more than 200 stores - the Plaza Las Americas (Mon-Sat 9am-9pm, Sun 11am-5pm; tel 787/767-5202) is on Avenida F.D. Roosevelt, off Route 26.
