You won't have much reason to stop at TROIS-ILETS , the first hamlet along the southern coast, unless you want information on nearby Pointe-du-Bout, which falls under its jurisdiction; the tourism office is on place de l'Eglise (Mon-Sat 9am-5pm, Sun 9am-noon). On the town's outskirts, the Poterie des Trois-Ilets hosts a handful of potters that sell their wares at the end of a red-clay road. Another kilometre westward is the engaging Maison de la Canne (Tues-Sun 9am-5.30pm; ?3.05), a sugarcane museum that's especially thorough on the history of slavery. Past Trois-Ilets in the direction of Anse-a-l'Ane, the main road branches off to the right and left around Martinique's golf course . The right leads to Pointe-du-Bout, the left to La Pagerie , Empress Josephine's homestead until the age of 16. While the main house was destroyed by a hurricane in 1766, the stone kitchen now hosts an engaging museum (Tues-Fri 9am-5.30pm, Sat & Sun 9am-1pm & 2.30-5.30pm; ?3.05) dedicated to the empress's torrid relationship with Napoleon. You'll find some intriguing pieces, like the doctored wedding certificate stating their mutual ages as 28, and a falsified coronation scene depicting Napoleon's mother among the guests - if fact, she didn't attend because she disliked Josephine.
