Most sun-worshippers head directly to SOUTHERN MARTINIQUE , where the Caribbean is bordered by the island's only white-sand beaches , including Les Salines , at the southernmost tip. Successively built up in recent years, many of the towns have lost much of their Martiniquan character; the most generic, Pointe-du-Bout , is nonetheless the most touristed, thanks to its proximity to Fort-de-France. Further south, Diamant and Ste-Anne are more authentic and less crowded.
