The blend of ruins, botanical gardens, rainforests and mountainous areas common to NORTHERN MARTINIQUE offers a sharp counterpoint to its southern resort towns. One route here, the roller-coaster Route de la Trace, cuts through the lush valleys of Mont-Pelee and Morne-Rouge , while the Caribbean-hugging N2 is lined by silvery-blue-tinted black beaches. The most remarkable sight in this region is St-Pierre , the town destroyed by Mont-Pelee in 1902, while Anse Couleuvre , at the northernmost tip, is Martinique's most secluded beach.
