Guadeloupe's outermost tip, a needle-shaped isthmus that pokes into the Atlantic, culminates 11km east of St-Francois at the majestic POINTE-DES-CHATEAUX , where a trio of barren limestone rock formations leap from the ocean, the tallest crowned by a wooden cross . You can't swim here due to the strong tides, but there's a colourful cafe on site with reasonable prix-fixe creole menus. If you fancy a dip, the nearby Plage des Salines , with its natural breakwater, is sufficiently sheltered; shacks serve drinks and grilled fish on picnic tables perched above the water on stilts. Back towards St-Francois, Plage Tartare , a small cove popular with nudists, is Guadeloupe's only bona fide "naturalist's paradise".
