Remarkably flat Grande-Terre is skirted by beaches and studded with resort towns so glossy that the highway connecting them bears the nickname "Riviera Road". The busiest enclave, Le Gosier , has the most amenities and nightlife of the lot, making it the definitive one-stop destination for those seeking nothing but sun and fun. The crowds thin out further east, around bohemian Ste-Anne and swanky St-Francois , and are almost non-existent along the Pointe-des-Chateaux . No visit to Guadeloupe would be complete without a visit to the colourful commercial hub of Pointe-a-Pitre , while northern pockets like Port-Louis , a picturesque fishing village at the mouth of calm Plage du Souffleur , and the dramatic Lagon des Portes d'Enfer , combine to make a terrific day out.
