The N2 north of the Route de la Traversee makes a roller coaster drive up the Caribbean coast with picture-postcard scenes at every descent. Though this coast is rocky in spots, there are a couple of soft sand beaches, including Basse-Terre's finest, Grande Anse . The scenery changes dramatically the further northeast you go, as fields of sugarcane dominate the landscape around Ste-Rose . A couple of rum distilleries and a phenomenal botanical garden are the main draws this far north.
