Though the Zona Colonial - straddling the western mouth of the Rio Ozama - is crammed with monumental architecture, it's very much a living neighbourhood thanks to the many cafes and clapboard row-houses where thousands of people live and work. The most important monuments can be seen in a single day; thorough exploration requires two or three.
