The Cordillera Central contains the Carribean's tallest, most beautiful mountains. For the most part, the roads are horrific, and so getting from place to place often requires a convoluted route, leaving the mountains via one paved road and then re-entering them via another. To head deeper into the range you'll need a donkey; blazed trails lead to Pico Duarte from several points.
