Eating, Drinking and Nightlife
Dining out in Roseau is a casual affair, with meals primarily consisting of hearty local dishes served in cosy rather than classy surroundings. What nightlife exists is moderately dressier. Balas Bar and Lounge Fort Young Hotel , Victoria Street. This hotel bar backed by the fort's original wall offers a lively cocktail hour on Friday nights from 6pm to 8pm. Cartwheel Cafe Dame Eugenia Charles Blvd. Light, inexpensive tropical breakfasts and flavourful curry lunch fare in a handsome stone house on the waterfront. Cornerhouse 6 King George V St. Atmospheric cafe on a second-floor verandah with comfy indoor sofas, a small book exchange, and internet access for EC$3/15min. The menu has a range of sandwiches and creole specials, and there's a popular quiz night on Wednesday (7-10pm). La Robe Creole 3 Victoria St. An intimate masonry-walled pub with an extensive wine list and good, moderately priced creole dishes like chicken columbo and spicy seafood. Downstairs is Mousehole , a takeout joint offering inexpensive rotis, meat pies, sandwiches and pastries. Sutton Grill Sutton Place Hotel , 25 Old St tel 767/449-8700. One of Dominica's few expensive restaurants does grilled chicken and tuna filet sandwiches at lunch, and juicy steak for dinner, in an outdoor courtyard. On Wednesday night, there's live music at The Cellar bar downstairs. World of Food 48 Cork St. Popular, casual eatery in the courtyard of Vena's Guesthouse , good for cheap sandwiches, fish dishes and dessert. One of the only places you'll find open on Sundays.
