Beaches
The Baths may be more like your local swimming pool on the hottest day of the year, but Virgin Gorda has plenty of quiet beaches offering ample opportunity for long walks on endless white sand, quiet picnics, excellent snorkelling and wonderful sunsets. The best are accessible only by water so you'll need to hire a boat. Prickly Pear Island has a collection of secluded beaches including long, sandy Vixen Point, Sand Box Beach and idyllic Lover's Beach - as you'd expect, the smallest and most private of them all. Hay Point Beach on the now-deserted island of Mosquito, is another good option. If you feel like having some facilities nearby, Deep Bay Beach is a good bet; it's the official beach for Biras Creek Resort but you don't have to be a guest to frolic in the ocean or plant yourself on a beach chair. You can reach Deep Bay by hiking from The Bitter End or by hiring your own boat. The best beach for snorkelling, Long Bay Beach , just south of Mountain Point, can be reached by road or sea; if you're coming by car take Plum Tree Bay Road, a dirt road that winds due north away from North Sound Road about two miles out of Spanish Town. If you're staying in Spanish Town, Savannah Bay Beach , one mile of deserted beautiful white sand, is your closest option. When the beach at The Baths is too crowded, swim (or walk) north around the last outcropping of rocks to Spring Bay Beach , which offers more great boulders, snorkelling and sand without the crowds.
