Drinking and Nightlife
Nightlife on Virgin Gorda takes the form of hopping from bar to bar by boat for a mellow drink and live music - many of the bars have their own ferries connecting them to anywhere in the North Sound. Gun Creek is a good place to start. When you step off the ferry, grab a cold one at The Last Stop Bar , then, once up the hill, try the Butterfly for beer and dominoes or Gunney's Cool Corner , where you can drink cheaply, eat fresh-fried chicken wings, play pool or sing some serious karaoke. The party epicentre of the North Sound is Saba Rock Resort , with nightly live music , drink specials and dancing. In Spanish Town a few of the restaurants liven up later in the evening. The Bath and Turtle has two happy hours daily (10.30-11.30am and 4-6pm) as well as live music, usually pan, calypso or reggae, every Wednesday night. Chez Bamboo hops on Friday nights when locals and tourists come to dance and party and La Tequila above The Rock Cafe heats up after the last meal is served downstairs. The Mine Shaft is the location for Virgin Gorda's monthly full-moon party , inspired by Bomba's Shack on Tortola; try their signature drink - The Cave-In. Thelma's Hideout (tel 284/495-5636), at the edge of Little Dix Bay , might be difficult to find, but it's unmissable. Thelma is a character, who will drink beer and play darts with you all night long. There's also a pool table and the occasional live band or DJ.
