Silver Sands is famous for windsurfing, and attracts enthusiasts from all over the world, though non-surfers come here too for the quiet, easy-going vibe. Fantastic waves roll in for most of the year and there are a handful of (pretty expensive) places where you can rent a windsurfer if you haven't brought your own. The beaches are less busy than further west - mainly because of the often choppy seas - but equally attractive; true to its name, Long Beach , just beyond the Ocean Spray Apartments , is the longest beach on the island - a huge stretch of crunchy white sand strewn with driftwood - and is often completely deserted.
