HAT SAI KAEW , or Diamond Beach, named for its beautiful long stretch of luxuriant sand, is ten minutes' walk south from Na Dan. The most popular - and congested - beach on Samet, this is the only part of the island where the beachfront is lined with bungalows, restaurants and beachwear stalls. The most appealing bungalow operation here is Diamond Beach Resort (tel 01/601 6249; $5-15), at the far northern end of the beach, which offers a big range of huts and bungalows comfortably spaced around a garden. Further south along the beach, Sai Kaew Villa (tel 01/218 6696; $10-60) comprises a dozen smart rooms in a block, plus some pricier bungalows.
