Perched on a narrow tongue of land reaching into Malaysia, BETONG is of interest only for the taxis that run across the Malay border to Keroh, which gives access to Sungai Petani and the west coast. Betong is three hours from Yala by frequent share taxi or air-conditioned minibus, or six hours by the daily bus. You can stay in Yala at Thepvimarn, 31 Thanon Sribumrung (tel 073/212400; under $10).
