At the riverside frontier post of BAN TABA , a ferry (B5) will shuttle you across to the Malaysian town of Pengkalan Kubor, which has frequent taxis and buses to Kota Bahru, 20km away . There are frequent buses from the provincial capital, Narathiwat , to Ban Taba (90min), most of them based at 308/5 Thanon Pichit Bamrung; share taxis hang around further north on the same road. Narathiwat's best budget hotel is the characterful riverside Narathiwat, at 341 Thanon Na (tel 073/511063; under $5); there's nowhere to stay in Ban Taba.
