Straddling the River Yom, NEW SUKHOTHAI is a small, friendly town with good guesthouses. There are several bus terminals in town, but the usual dropping-off point is near the Sukhothai Hotel on Thanon Singhawat. You should go to the relevant terminal, however, when picking up a bus to leave town. Frequent songthaews (every 15min; 15min) shuttle between New Sukhothai and the historical park 12km away; they leave from behind the police box on Thanon Charodvithitong. Most guesthouses organize local tours , or you can rent motorbikes from Number 4 Guesthouse or Somprasong (B200) and bicycles from Lotus Village or Ban Thai (B50). CS Internet, on Thanon Chardovithitong opposite Wat Ratchathani (tel 055/610621), offers daytime email service.
