Chances are that when you see a poster of a waterfall in Thailand, you'll be looking at a picture of the seven-tiered falls in Erawan National Park (B25 admission), 65km northwest of Kanchanaburi. Each level comprises a waterfall feeding a pool of invitingly clear water, of which the best for swimming are levels two and seven. The falls are a popular day-trippers' destination, and there's a fairly easy trail up to the seventh and final tier (2km). Most Kanchanaburi guesthouses arrange songthaew transport to and from Erawan Falls for B80 per person. Though a little less convenient, local buses also run to Erawan (#8170), leaving Kanchanaburi between 8am and 4.30pm (every 50min; 2hr) and stopping at Srinakarind market, from where it's a one-kilometre walk to the national park headquarters and the trailhead. If you miss the 4pm ride back you'll probably be there for the night. There are food stalls near the trailhead.
