Practicalities
The falls are best reached through the small town of Santa Cruz , two hours southeast of Manila on the southern shore of Laguna de Bay. Santa Cruz is served by regular BLTB and Jam Liner buses from their Pasay terminals in Manila. From Santa Cruz it's an easy ten-minute jeepney ride to the river, but watch out for touts who will intercept you as you get off the bus and try to guide you towards their boat. Others will offer "special rides" to the falls, but there's no need. Jeepneys run regularly from the little square in the centre of Santa Cruz and cost P10. There is no shortage of accommodation in and around Pagsanjan. The Pagsanjan Youth Hostel (tel 049/645 2347; $5-10), at 237 General Luna St, has basic dorm beds with fan for P150 and singles/doubles with fan. Guesthouses include the simple but clean Willy Flores Guesthouse ($10-15), 821 Garcia St, offering singles and doubles with fan and bath. More expensive is La Corona de Pagsanjan (tel 0912/306 9766; $40-60), on the road towards Cavinti, with standard doubles. Pagsanjan Falls Lodge and Summer Resort (tel 049/632 7834 or 633 9917; $40-60), in Barangay Pinagsanjan (take a jeepney from General Luna Street) in Pagsanjan, has air-con doubles.
shout the rapids!andrea nicu says "actually, its shoot the rapids, not shout the rapids. because its one true experience of nature and one of the best in the philippines. me and 2 of my friends went to the falls. its an escape from the hospital premises since we are nurses. we stayed at camino real hotel (is the spelling correct?). the room rate is just fine for the 3 of us, the room itself is just fine. we have a tv, an aircon and solo cr. the shooting of rapids is great! awesome! also the boatmen who rows and push the banca. you have to wear shorts, coz your pants will get wet as you pass by the huge rocks and bump other bancas. if you get to the falls at the end of the tour, i recommend you ride the raft to see and feel the falls falling at your back. thats what i mean youll shout the rapids! youll scream your lungs out because the impact of the falls at your back is really great. painful because of the impact but relaxing for those who are tired (a good massage). but the boatmen who catered us throughout the trip, well, i cant describe. we bought some grilled chicken and canned soft drinks for 200 pesos all in and they asked for more tip because foreigners give $35 tip for the whole trip. and since we are local, we can give any amount we can. we 3 are just planning to escape the toxicities of our work and wants to relax thats why we went to the falls but we were alarmed that 300 pesos is not enough tip for them, my friends decided to give 700 (actually, we bargained too much)because we have no choice. i think the trip is great. but we cant blame our fellow filipinos to try the trip because of the expenses. imagine, i spent 5000 pesos (around $93)only for the trip almost 2/3 of my salary. i am aware i can spend that much but the memories that ive experienced from the boatmen who are not satisfied for what youve gave and asked more. but in general, the falls is great! i hope we filipinos pay much attention to travel first here in the philippines rather to go to europe or asia. in that way, we can promote tourism in the country. im proud to be in pagsanjan falls once in my life!!!!" about pagsanjanernesta says "about how can i go there form manila to pagsanjan falls what bus i ride?
