DAMAN (2322m) is the most comprehensive of the Himalayan viewpoints surrounding Kathmandu, but it's also the most difficult to reach. The challenge of getting to it, and getting back down from it, is in fact one of its main attractions. Sitting below the Rajpath's highest point, the hamlet overlooks the peaceful Palung Valley to a magnificent spread of peaks. However, the mountains will probably be in clouds when you arrive: an overnight stay is obligatory to see them in their best morning light. Bring a sleeping bag in winter, unless you've got reservations at the deluxe Everest Panorama Resort.
