These two paved but minor roads take parallel courses southwards from Patan. The first leads to the delightful village of Bungmati, summer home of Rato Machhendranath. The second has no particularly interesting towns along it, but it goes much further south into attractive countryside. The main reason you'd come this way is to do a bike circuit of the southern valley: these two roads aren't themselves that great for cycling, but they give access to smaller tracks and trails that are. Buses for Khokana/Bungmati depart from the Ring Road just south of the Ekantakuna area of Patan (hourly). Chapagaun buses depart from Patan's Lagankhel bus park (at least hourly).
