Running south from the Royal Palace, Durbar Marg is the capital's premier commercial address. A single building on one ropani of land (about an eighth of an acre) here sold in the early 1990s for the staggering sum of Rs96 million. Land prices in Kathmandu have declined somewhat since then, but there have been no transactions on Durbar Marg recently to confirm this.
