Arriving By Bus
Tourist buses from Pokhara and Chitwan let passengers off on Kantipath near Tridevi Marg (for Thamel) and near Bhimsen Tower (for Freak Street). That's if they get to Kathmandu before the afternoon rush hour starts - if your bus enters the city after about 3.30pm it may be redirected to Balaju, farther northwest of Thamel. Coming from the Indian border or Pokhara by public bus, you'll arrive at the New (Naya) Bus Park, located at Gongabu at the extreme north end of the city; taxis and tempos charge Rs75-100 to most tourist destinations. If you happen to be travelling by Sajha bus, stay on board and the bus will continue on to Bhimsen Tower. Buses from the Tibet border terminate at the City Bus Park, also known as the Old (Purano) Bus Park, east of the city centre and a Rs50 taxi ride to most lodgings.
