The paved road past Boudha - one of the old trade routes to Tibet - rolls eastwards as far as Sankhu and its Bajra Jogini temple, from where there are unpaved tracks to points on the valley rim. A second road forks left at Jorpati, 1km east of Boudha, and makes for Sundarijal in the extreme northeastern corner of the valley. Both roads are rather blighted by carpet-industry build-up for some distance past Jorpati, but the Sankhu road then becomes a fairly gentle ride on a bicycle , and it can be combined with visits to Nagarkot or Changu Narayan (for which you'll need a mountain bike). The Sundarijal road is mainly of interest for starting a trek in the Helambu region; its most interesting feature, the Gokarna Mahadev temple, is better reached by bike or foot from the Kopan and Pulahari monasteries. Regular buses from Kathmandu's City Bus Park ply both roads.
