Some of Bhaktapur's best buys are in wood : browse the workshops around the main squares to get a feel for different styles, woods and techniques, then haggle for bargains with the traders along the lane that contains the Peacock Window. Bhaktapur is also known for its Nawa Durga puppets and papier-mache masks , which are associated with a local dance festival. The puppets come in various sizes and with one, two or four faces. Masks also come in a range of sizes and in two qualities, but the selection is greater in Thimi. Many of the paper products sold elsewhere in the valley are handmade here in Bhaktapur, at a UNICEF-supported factory near the Tourist Bus Park. And of course you can pick up cheap pottery at the Potters' Square: animal figures, planters, candlestick holders, ashtrays, piggy banks (called kutrukke, a word that imitates the sound of a coin being dropped in) and so on. Nepalis recognize Bhaktapur for its traditional textiles , such as black-and-red pataasi material and black Bhadgaonle topi, formal headgear now worn mainly by traditionalists and government officials. Foreigners will be more attracted by the locally produced dhaka in original designs, as well as block-printed, quilted cotton items, woollens, pashmina shawls and Rajasthani-style tapestries. Several shops around Taumadhi sell quality thangka , and artists can often be seen painting them. Watercolours of local scenes are popular. Some metal pieces, such as incense holders and traditional ritual objects, are produced here. Tea, incense and music CDs are also available. Film is sold in many tourist shops. There's a film processing lab just west of the Durbar Square gate.
