For travellers coming by road from other parts of Nepal, Hetauda is the gateway to the eastern Tarai: from Narayanghat (Chitwan) it's an easy two-hour bus ride to Hetauda along the Mahendra Highway , hugging the hills as it follows the attractive dun (inner Tarai valley) of the Rapti River; the Tribhuwan Rajpath enters the town from the north and continues south to the Indian border at Birganj.
