GEORGETOWN is Malaysia's most fascinating city and retains more of its cultural history than virtually anywhere else in the country. It is a magnet for budget travellers, a place not only to renew Thai visas, but to relax and observe street life in between trips to the beach. The most confusing thing about finding your way around Georgetown is the fact that many streets have several names - Penang Road has become Jalan Penang, Penang Street is Lebuh Penang, Weld Quay has become Pengkalan Weld, and Beach Street is now Lebuh Pantai. Lebuh Cinta is almost universally known as Love Lane, and Jalan Mesjid Kapitan Kling is often referred to as Lebuh Pitt.
