The Malaysian national airline, MAS, operates a wide range of domestic flights : from KL to Langkawi (RM135) takes just 55 minutes, thus saving an eleven-hour bus journey followed by an hour's ferry ride. Night tourist flights can reduce the price of a flight from KL to Alor Setar from RM113 to RM57. Also, between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia and between Sabah and Sarawak, three or more passengers travelling together get a fifty percent discount; for other routes in Malaysia, a 25 percent discount applies (book seven days ahead). Blind or disabled passengers can get a fifty percent discount; only students studying in Malaysia get reductions. If you buy an international MAS flight, you can get a Discover Malaysia Pass : GBP62/US$99 for up to five free flights within one of Malaysia's three sectors (Sarawak, Sabah and the Peninsula) and GBP125/US$199 for five flights in any of these three. The passes are valid for 28 days; dates can be changed for free and you can alter the route for US$25. Flights to East Malaysia operate mainly out of Kuala Lumpur, with Johor Bahru providing additional services to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Within Sarawak and Sabah, there are numerous nineteen-seater Twin-Otter and Fokker flights from Miri to other towns in the state's northern interior, like Bario, Ba Kalalan, Lawas and Limbang. Small aircraft also fly from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat, Sandakan and Tuwau.
