Practicalities
Pick-ups and buses from Vientiane arrive at the bus station near Vang Viang's centrally located market, which is close to all accommodation. Buses from Louang Phabang stop just outside of town on Route 13, also close to the guesthouses. There's a small bank (Mon-Sat 8am-noon & 1-4pm) on the town's main street, which changes sterling and dollar travellers' cheques. Nearby is the telecom office (Mon-Fri 8am-noon & 1-5pm) which handles international calls. The post office is near the market. Three colourful, hand-drawn maps of the Vang Viang area ($0.80) are available from the noodle shop next to Siripanga guesthouse near the market. Websurfers should head for PlaNet CyberCentre (daily 8.30am-10pm; $2 for 25min), next to Dok Khoune I guesthouse.
