Arrival and Information
Local trains arrive at Kurashiki Station, fifteen minutes west of Okayama on the Sanyo line. Shinkansen don't stop at Kurashiki, so you'll need to change to a local train at Okayama. in front of Kurashiki Station. At the tourist information office (daily: April-Nov 9am-6pm; Jan-March & Dec 9am-5pm; tel 086/426-8681), inside Kurashiki Station, you can pick up a map of the town's sights and the English-speaking staff can make accommodation bookings. There's also another helpful tourist information office in the Bikan district (daily 9am-5pm; tel 086/422-0542), beside the canal, with a rest area where you can grab a drink from a bank of vending machines.
