Eating, Drinking and Nightlife
Tokushima has a good choice of restaurants ; an easy option is to make your way to the fifth floor of Clement Plaza, where several places serve Japanese, Chinese and Western food, as well as an outlet of Spice Kingdom (daily 11am-9.30pm), with good Indian curries and other dishes. The major hotels do inexpensive buffet lunches - Cafe Clements , on the ground floor of Hotel Clement , is a good bet. A local speciality is taki-no-yakimochi , a sweet patty of pounded rice and red beans toasted on a griddle - try it at Awa Odori Kaikan or in Clement Plaza. There are also delicious home-made gelati at the Luce Luna ice-cream bar on Higashi Shinmachi. For a drink , one of the favourites is R's Cafe ; Copa , a narrow cafe/bar close to the train station on Terashimahoncho, is no longer quite so popular, but serves a cheap lunch set for Y650 and has a selection of English magazines. Rooftop beer gardens open during the summer at several hotels, including the Marston Green on Ryogoku Honmachi, while Akitamachi , Tokushima's lively entertainment area, bulges with bars and restaurants. For dancing try Club Marrs on the fifth floor of the Kirinsiguramu Biru , a nightclub which charges foreigners a bargain Y500 entrance, including one drink, and Heat on the fourth floor of the ASTY Annex, which tends to get going after 1am. At either of these places you're likely to bump into most of Tokushima's expat community.
