Banks and exchange The main branch of Awa Bank, beside the Kasuga-bashi, offers the full range of foreign exchange services. Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank is just off from Shinmachi-dori, while Sanwa bank can only exchange US dollars. Bookshops There's a very limited selection of English-language books at the Koyama bookstore, a block east of the JR station. Car rental Eki Rent-a-car (tel 088/622-1014) is in front of Tokushima Station, while Koko Rent-a-car (tel 088/699-6671) is at the airport; both offer similar rates. Hospitals and clinics Tokushima Prefectural Central Hospital (Kenritsu Chuo Byoin), 1-10-3 Kuramoto-cho (tel 088/631-7151). Internet access Available at TOPIA for Y50 for 10min. Also possible at R's Cafe , for free, if R isn't using the computer. Laundry A short walk from the station is the Aozara coin laundry, at 3-3 Nakajo-sanjima, open daily from 8am-10pm. Police The main police station is close to Kachidoki-bashi (tel 088/622-3101). . Post office The central post office is a 3min walk south of the JR station at 1-2 Yaoya-cho. Opening hours are Mon-Fri 9am-7pm, Sat 9am-5pm & Sun 9am-12.30pm. Shopping Clement Plaza, beside the JR station, and Sogo department store are good places to hunt out souvenirs and food supplies. Both Awa Odori Kaikan and ASTY Tokushima have fine ranges of local products. The main shopping arcade is the covered Higashi Shinmachi, just off Shinmachi-dori. Harada Koto Sangenten is a shop specializing in shamisen and koto musical instruments, just next door to the Isaku ryokan. The kind owners will likely pull a shamisen out and give you a demonstration. Taxis Try the Taxi Association (tel 088/631-8203) or Tomida Taxi (tel 088/622-5158). Travel agents The main JTB office is at 1-29 Ryogoku Honmachi (tel 088/623-3181).
