Airlines Both ANA (tel 087/825-0111) and JAL (tel 087/822-2323) have offices at the north end of Chuo-dori, 5min from the JR station. JAS is at 1-1-5 Bancho (tel 0878/26-1111).

Banks and exchange The main branch of Hyakujyushi Bank is at 5-1 Kameicho; Kagawa Bank is at 6-1 Kameicho; and Mistui Shintaku Bank is at 9-4 Konya-machi. Fuji Bank, 7-10 Marugame-machi, changes US dollars only. There's a cash machine that accepts foreign cards at the main post office ; it's accessible Mon-Fri 7am-11pm, Sat, Sun & holidays 9am-7pm.

Bike rental From the rent-a-cycle shop outside the JR Takamatsu Station.

Bookshops Miawake, 4-8 Marugame-cho (daily 9am-10pm), has a good selection of English-language books and magazines on the fifth floor.

Car rental Eki Rent-a-car Shikoku, 1-10 Hamancho (tel 087/821-1341); Toyota Rent-a-lease Kagawa, 2-2-5 Kotobuki-cho (tel 087/851-0100).

Hospitals and clinics Kagawa Kenritsu Chuo Byoin (Prefectural Central Hospital) is at 5-4-16 Bancho (tel 087/835-2222).

Internet access Apart from the free terminal at I-PAL , Queensberry Cafe , beside the Sogo department store, charges Y100 for 30min access and is open daily 11am-midnight. In the Marugame-machi Arcade, the mega Internet cafe operation I LOVE YU is open 24hr; you need to pay Y300 for a membership card, then it's Y500 per hour including free drinks.

Laundry Flower Coin Laundry, 1-11-15 Hananomiya-cho, is open daily 8am-10pm.

Police The main police station is at 4-1-10 Bancho (tel 087/833-2111).

Post office The main post office is at the north end of the Marugame arcade, opposite the Mitsukoshi department store. Opening hours are Mon-Fri 9am-7pm, Sat 9am-5pm, Sun 9am-12.30pm.

Shopping Sanuki lacquerware and papier-mache dolls are the main local crafts. Apart from the giftshops in Ritsurin-koen and the Kagawa History Museum, shops in the arcades and the

Mitsukoshi and Sogo department stores are good places for souvenirs. Also worth checking out is Mingei Fukuda , Hyakean-machi, opposite the Kawaroku Hotel , a fine emporium packed with folk crafts, pottery and paper goods. It's open Tues-Sun 10am-5.30pm.

Taxis Try Okawa Taxi (tel 087/851-3358) or Tosan (tel 087/821-0777).

Travel agencies The main JTB office (tel 087/851-4981) is on Chio-dori close to Chuo-koen. The assistants speak some English.
