Bookshops Kinokuniya, on the second floor of Bandai City's Mitsukoshi department store, has Niigata's best selection of foreign-language books. Car rental Around the station, try Eki Rent-a-car (tel 025/245-4292), Nippon (tel 025/245-3221), Nissan (tel 025/243-5523) or Toyota (tel 025/245-0100). Ferries Sado Kisen (tel 025/245-1234) operates ferries and jetfoil services to Ryotsu (Sado) from the Sado Kisen Terminal, reached by local bus from Niigata Station (15min). Ferries to Otaru (Hokkaido) are run by Shin-Nihonkai Ferry (tel 025/273-2171) and leave from the Shin-Nihonkai Ferry Terminal; take a bus from the station for Rinko Nichome and get off at the Suehiro-bashi stop (20min). In summer, Vladivostok boats (Rinko Air Service; tel 025/244-5671) depart from Niigata's International Passenger Terminal; get off the Rinko Nichome bus at the Chuo-futo stop (25min). Hospitals The two largest city-centre hospitals are Niigata University Hospital, 1-757 Asahimachi-dori (tel 025/223-6161), and Niigata City General Hospital, 2-6-1 Shichikuyama (tel 025/241-5151). Post office Niigata Central Post Office, 2-6-26 Higashi-odori, is located a few minutes' walk north of the station and has a poste restante service.
