Aomori Welcome Card
Even if you're only spending a day or two in Aomori-ken, make sure you get an Aomori Welcome Card . This free card, valid for a year, provides discounts of up to fifty percent (though mostly ten to twenty percent) on hotels, restaurants, museums, car rental and other facilities in the prefecture. Eligibility is restricted to overseas visitors staying in Japan for a year or less. The cards are available from the Tokyo TIC and local tourist offices, including those in Aomori Station, Hirosaki Station and the Hirosaki Sightseeing Information Centre. You'll need to take along your passport. The card comes with a useful booklet in English outlining all the participating organizations and businesses. Note that there are plans to introduce a new card to include Akita and Iwate prefectures in the next one or two years.
